As part of our commitment to safety, passing the Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical and Drug Test is essential. Carol Yu believed she had found her career path within luxury retail management, but a unique opportunity within the automotive space set her on her road to Rivian, where she has led our Delivery and Mobile Operations teams within the Central US and Canada since 2021.
“I had no intention of starting anything to do with automotive – I like cars, they’re cool, but I knew nothing about the space. It was a very exciting journey, and it was probably the steepest learning curve I’ve ever had. It was unlike anything else I’ve ever tried before – the sustainability aspect is very important, and it’s very satisfying that you get to work in a job where you get to make a positive impact for the world.
“What attracted me to Delivery and Mobile Operations is the teamwork that goes along with it; you need communication, collaboration, and great people who have the same mindset to drive toward that end goal together. One person cannot do it alone, and that camaraderie, that feeling of trying to achieve something greater together, is magical.

Tell us about your path that got you to Rivian
Prior to joining Rivian I was working at a popular grocery store known for customer service for nearly a decade. I have always been in customer facing roles in the hospitality, tourism and retail spaces. The transition into Rivian felt seamless to me. Making personal connections and building relationships with customers has always come easy to me. I knew that I wanted to get involved in a new industry and felt a connection to Rivian once I did some research about the mission and product. I found that the company’s values closely align with how I like to conduct myself both personally and professionally and knew I would be a great fit! I love the outdoors, going on new adventures and encouraging others to do the same. Rivian allows me to combine passions with my interpersonal skills while encouraging my growth and development.
What do you love about being a Delivery Specialist?
My current role as a Sr. Delivery Specialist allows me to guide the customer through the most exciting part of their Rivian journey. Often it’s their first time seeing one of our vehicles in person. Getting to see the look on their face when they see their new vehicle is so rewarding! A lot of customers have been waiting a long time to get their hands on a Rivian and my team is generally the first in-person interaction they have with a Rivian employee! We strive to leave lasting impressions that are memorable and give a unique car buying experience. I often leave delivery ceremonies feeling like I’ve made new friends that I just welcomed into the community, helping us achieve our global mission.
What makes you excited about Rivian?
I have been with Rivian since May of 2022 and feel like I've been given countless opportunities to grow and be challenged. I was selected to participate in the Rebelle Rally program and even was able to help on the support team. We travelled to places I had never been and had extensive off-road and navigation training. I would say that the unknown of what the future could bring is very motivating to me. There is so much growth to come and diverse opportunities with that will come along with that growth. Of course, the mission of keeping the world adventurous forever and being a part of reaching our goal is a huge motivating factor for me as well. I love that there are so many ways to make a positive impact on our mission. I feel empowered to choose my path and reach for opportunities that are presented to me on a daily basis.
What's the hardest part of your job?
I would say the hardest part about my job is having to send the customers on their way and saying goodbye to them. Aside from that, we work as a team to tackle challenges daily and can pivot with creativity to make the daily operations run smoothly. My advice to anyone who is interested in getting involved in Delivery & Mobile Operations at Rivian would be to stay open to an ever-changing role that aims to grow and adapt as we scale the business. Be open to pivoting and just rolling with whatever comes your way while always putting the customer experience first.
